A lot of people asked us about this sample as we were putting it together for a display so we figured we would make it easy and put it all together in kit form! This was a pretty simple idea designed for everyone in the shop to be able to participate and lend a hand on it.
Finished Size 36″ x 22″

We completed the project using the Necchi C2000 for piecing and the Innova M28 for all of the longarm work. You could easily do the piecing on any machine and on a smaller project like this the cross hatching and applique could be completed on most home sewing machines with an applique foot and a walking foot with guide bar.

We used a combination of Tilda Creating Memories Collection Autumn Charm Pack and and some select Riley Blake Confetti Cotton Solids to make some small patchwork sections. The leaves are done in 1″ squares and the pumpkins are finished in 2″ squares.

Because our project was done on the longarm, we had masked out the location of each pumpkin and each leaf while doing the cross hatch stitching.
This allowed us to come back over it and just lay our pieces over the blank areas and then let the longarm stitch the fabric in place.
The next step was just a matter of trimming the fabric to the stitch line and then letting the long arm stitch back over it with a path applied blanket stitch, then allowing the machine to fill in the insides of the pumpkin and leaves.
To do this on a household machine you would need to cut the applique fabric into the proper shape before putting it on the table runner.

You could also pretty easily ruler work the pumpkin and leaves quilting stitching using some basic curved rulers.
