This year is a hallmark year for Anime Nebraskon: Nebraska’s largest community-run anime and pop culture convention. Not only are we celebrating our 20th Anniversary, but also launching a new program that is near-and-dear to my heart, the Cosplay Academy, which is geared towards providing greater access to free instruction in all areas of cosplay crafting.

Mid-America Center
1 Arena Way
Council Bluffs, IA 51501

Millard Sewing Presents
“Beyond The Basics” Sewing Panel
Saturday October 19th @ 1 PM

The focus this year is on all things fabric and sewing, which are often areas that self-taught cosplayers struggle with. With that in mind, we’ve gathered a number of wonderful local (and some not-so-local) sponsors to provide machines, notions and fabric for hands-on workshops, as well as incredible prizes for the 20th Anniversary Cosplay Competitions. Millard Sewing, in association with prestigious sewing machine manufacturers Elna and Necchi, really upped the ante by donating some amazing prizes. An Elna eXperience 560 will be the prize for Best-in-Show for the Mainstage and a Necchi Creator Series C35 will find a new home with the winner of the Hall Cosplay competition this year. The runner up in each category will each receive a Millard Sewing Gift Card. To date the highest valued prizes the contest has ever had.

As we head into the final weeks before the convention, taking place at the Mid-America Center, October 18th-20th, I can feel a buzz in the air of anticipation. Right about now is when our competitors will be buckling down to finish their ambitious builds in what we cosplayers fondly (and somewhat hysterically) have dubbed ‘con crunch’. So whether you happen to have the weekend free and want to check out a ‘con’ for the first time, or you’ve been attending Nebkon for years and wouldn’t miss it for the world, I hope you’ll come on out and support all of the amazing cosplayers as they duke it out for fun, fame, and killer prizes!
